Understanding Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) in IVF
Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) is an advanced screening tool used during IVF to examine embryos for genetic abnormalities before they are transferred to the uterus. This process improves the chances of a healthy pregnancy and reduces the risk of miscarriage.
There are different types of PGT:
PGT-A screens for abnormal chromosome numbers
PGT-M identifies specific inherited conditions
PGT-SR detects structural chromosomal rearrangements.
At Delight Fertility Clinic, PGT-A is performed using advanced Next Generation Sequencing (NGS), a cutting-edge method that delivers highly accurate results.
PGT is particularly recommended for:
- patients over 35
- those with a history of miscarriage
- failed IVF attempts
- known genetic conditions
The embryo biopsy is done safely at the blastocyst stage, and only healthy embryos are selected for transfer or continued freezing.
By combining IVF with PGT, patients increase their chances of success while making informed decisions about their reproductive future.
